Town man detained for child pornography | News, Sports, Jobs

A town man was arrested for child pornography offenses after the attorney general’s office raided his residence on Thursday, court documents show.

Joshua R. Matt, 34, was arraigned by Magistrate District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on

50 counts of child pornography after detectives allegedly seized 100 images and 40 video files of child pornography from his residence at 3000 Block of Burgoon Road in Altoona, according to the criminal complaint. Matt also faces one count of criminal use of a communication medium, according to documents.

Detectives said at least two of the files seized from Matt’s residence involved prepubescent girls.

Among the seized child pornography videos and images, detectives said nearly 50 of the files depicted indecent contact with pre-busted children.

Authorities initially received a cyber tip in April from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Matt uploaded a file of sexually-oriented child pornography to Discord, a social media platform designed for gamers.

Special agents said they discovered that the suspect’s IP address was assigned to Atlantic Broadband, and after executing a warrant at Atlantic Broadband, received information about the subscribers that led to Matt’s address.

Search warrants were obtained for the Discord account, and officers said they discovered six additional child pornography files stored in an attachments folder on the account.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Matt’s home Thursday morning, but he was not home, court documents show.

Matt was arrested at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday while at work and allegedly admitted to the offenses, according to the complaint.

Matt reportedly told detectives that he initially used the Discord platform for gaming purposes, but then used it for the purpose of obtaining child pornography.

According to the complaint, Matt told detectives that he had received a link to a website for child pornography from other Discord users, and that he would also be sending child pornography files to other users. Matt reportedly told detectives that he would then save the files to his Lenovo tablet, according to the complaint.

The Computer Forensics Unit recovered Matt’s tablet from his bedroom and discovered several files of child pornography, officials said, and other pornographic files were discovered on a USB drive in his bedroom.

Special agents said Matt was identified from a selfie-style photo on the Discord account, and agents matched Matt’s Discord photo with a photo on his driver’s license obtained from PennDOT.

In Matt’s bedroom, officers said they found anime posters on the wall that matched the posters in the background of the Discord photo.

Unable to post a $ 75,000 cash bond, Matt is currently being held in Blair County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear before Jones on August 25 for a preliminary hearing.
