Emmerdale responds to reports of racism complaint on set

Emmerdale responded to media reports that a racism complaint was filed on the set of the ITV soap opera.

The sun reported that a Métis actress was upset by an “inappropriate comment” made on set and that her accent was mimicked while filming scenes that aired during the soap opera’s stunt week in October.

The publication also reports that actors Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, and Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Barton, have been absent from the set since the alleged incident.

Wolfenden and Hodgins did not address the report publicly but The sun writes that they categorically denied all allegations. Digital Spy has contacted their representatives for comment.

David and Victoria are currently on an off-screen visit to Diane Sugden in Portugal, following Diane’s recent outing. There has been no confirmation of when they might return.

The couple have been involved in some big stories for the past couple of years, most recently playing a big role in the soap opera’s big stunt week as Victoria was nearly drowned by her romantic rival, Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu).

Other major storylines include the rape of Victoria by Lee Posner and the subsequent birth of his son, Harry, as well as David’s relationship with Maya Stepney, who later turned out to be grooming the former stepmother. David’s teenage son, Jacob Gallagher. Maya then left her baby, Theo, on David’s doorstep, the child having confirmed to be David’s after a DNA test.

Emmerdale Airs weekday evenings at 7 p.m. on ITV, with an additional episode at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
