Google app users can’t turn off trending searches on the homepage

The Google App is Google’s official search app that takes your search experience to a whole new level. Using this app, you can search and browse items such as nearby places, live sports scores, videos, images, news and much more.

It has a feature called Discover where you can get personalized updates on the topics that matter to you. You can also access Google search directly from any browser, just search for ‘Google.com’.

Previously, some Google Chrome users on Android and desktop reported that their Chrome search bar was full of irrelevant trend searches that could not be turned off.

And now the same problem has started to appear again for the users of the Google app. According to reports, affected people cannot turn off trend searches from settings after the recent update.

Apparently even not turning off trending searches keeps them from showing up in the Google app, which is pretty annoying.

Here are some reports for reference:

Google app trending search issue

Turning off trend search in the search settings doesn’t seem to do anything. I have tried and tried, and read the advice on this forum to no avail. Trending searches just won’t go away. Very boring to say the least. The problem only seems to occur when the language is set to English. When setting to Maori, the trend search disappears. Seemed to be happening after a few updates. Agree with everyone. Same problem. I can’t get rid of trending searches even though my settings are set to this. Trend searches are irrelevant, boring, and frustrating. Get rid of this Google! (Source)

After getting frustrated with this annoying problem, affected users then took to the Google search community forum for a solution.

While a product expert has since suggested steps to turn off trending searches in the Google app, the recommended troubleshooting does not solve the problem.

It looks like there is an internal software issue with the Google app which is probably occurring after the recent update.

However, Google has yet to recognize the real issue where trending searches don’t turn off even when users have them turned off in settings.

If you are also having the same issues on your google app or browser while doing a google search, you can try the given solution, if you haven’t done so already. Here are the steps to do it.

Turn off trend searches from the Google app:

– Open the Google app.

– At the top right, tap your profile or initial picture> Settings> General.

– Turn off autocomplete with trend searches.

Turn off trend searches from the mobile browser:

– On your Android phone or tablet, open a browser like Chrome or Firefox.

– Go to google.com.

– At the top left, tap Menu> Settings.

– Under “Autocomplete with trend searches”, select Do not show popular searches. (Source)

If the above-mentioned solution doesn’t work, you’ll have to wait for Google to fix it. We hope this issue with trending searches on the Google app and browsers will be resolved soon.
